What is Feedback Week?
It's a chance to receive personal feedback about your own dance: it's like a super mini-version of a private class! A little bit of attention just for you.
It's also our last class of the trimester, so we'll have an auberge espagnole and social dancing in parallel! Please bring something to eat or drink to share with the group and a reusable cup for yourself (to minimise waste!)
👉To help us organise everything as smoothly as possible, please fill out this survey by Wednesday 26th March! 👈
When is Feedback Week?
From Mon 31st March to Thurs 3rd April.
First class starts at 19:00 as usual.
IMPORTANT: Second class of the evening starts at 20:30 - NOT 20:45.
How does the feedback part work?
Each person will have 15 minutes with one of the Conexão teachers.
In this time, you will dance one song and then we'll go through the list of fundamentals together with you and discuss how you’re doing on each part.
What are fundamentals and figures?
-
Fundamentals are the skills, techniques and knowledge which make your dance comfortable, enjoyable, interactive and musical. They include everything from mastering the rhythm, offering a comfortable hug, managing the space around you when you dance and creating dialogue with your partner - and much more!
-
Figures are the vocabulary of forró. Sometimes called steps, moves, or “des pas” in French. Vai e Vem, Chuveirinho, Arco Iris, and Caminhada are all examples of figures.
What do I need to do when we dance?
We want to see you dancing as naturally as possible so we can give you the most meaningful feedback!
This simply means connecting to your partner and the music, and enjoying the dance.
We don't want to see hundreds of figures or feel like you're ticking off a checklist ("balanço, CHECK! caminhada, CHECK!" ...Please noooo!)
How is this linked to a change of levels?
If you're not planning to change level right now, we'll focus on the reviewing the fundamentals with you. (And, of course, we'll tell you if we think you should change level!)
If you think you’re ready to change level, we will also take this opportunity to check that you are comfortable with all the figures you need to know for the next level.
If you don't use a figure spontaneously in your dance, that's OK! We'll double check it with you afterwards.
So remember, no ticking off a checklist of figures in your head! Be present and enjoy the moment <3
Oh wow, this is new! Sounds a bit like an exam, no?
We want to make the changing level process smoother and more transparent for everyone. We also want to make sure that everyone is in a level which is right for them.
But the idea is really not an exam! ;-) It's an exchange where you can learn more about where you are at with your dancing, and how to continue to learn and grow. No exam stress required!
Can we see the figures and fundamentals for each level in advance?
Of course! Find them here:
⭐ For transitioning from Level 1 to Level 2
⭐ For transitioning from Level 2 to Level 3
⭐ For transitioning from Level 3 to Level 4
Plus some general guidance about changing levels here.
Why do we have to complete a survey?
This is quite an ambitious undertaking for Conexão! We will be mobilising the whole teaching team almost all week to ensure every student gets personalised feedback!
We need to be sure that we have enough teachers present every day to be able to give feedback to every student.
To help us organise this, we’re asking you to fill out this survey by Wednesday 26th March so we know exactly how many people will attend which class slot.
What if I can't attend my regular class that week?
If you can’t attend your regular class slot that week, there are three options. You can select the appropriate one when you fill out the survey.
-
Choose another class slot you can attend -> fill in the survey and this confirms the class slot you select.
-
If you can't make another class time the same week, let us know. We will do our best to find an alternative moment, even though we can't guarantee this will be possible.
-
If you can't make another class time, you can also skip the feedback opportunity this time. This means that you will register for the same level in April-June trimester.
